History of Goma

The city of Goma is located in North Kivu, in the eastern part of the Congo, on the border with Rwanda. It is a very difficult area, and since 1997, this region has experienced turmoil and insecurity.

Everything started with the Rwandan genocide in April 1994, and its consequences are still being felt today. This situation has hardened the hearts of people. Twenty-seven years is a long time, and the consequences of this turmoil have made people's hearts very hardened, very materialistic, and even tribalism, which is very difficult to understand for those who don’t have experience of Africa. This is why the hatred between tribes is very deep, almost visceral, and often stronger than reason.

Goma currently has almost 2 million people, most of whom are internally displaced, fleeing the war that is approaching closer and closer to our seminary. In the midst of all this, we are here. We feel that the Lord is calling us to a mission of evangelization because only the Lord can change people's hearts.

Only the Lord can inspire movements of peace and justice in this area, which has been forgotten by public opinion. We are here to serve families, to serve the young, to encourage them, and to show them that it is possible to live a different life. The Lord can truly change people's lives and give hope to these young people.

We ask for your prayers and the intercession of the Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace, to inspire peace and justice in Goma. Your support brings hope to those in need.
